Recruiting a Service Manager for a specialist operational business

A specialist operational business required a Service Manager capable of combining operational leadership, people management, customer focus and practical commercial judgement.

The recruitment challenge was therefore broader than finding someone who had previously held the right job title.

The challenge

The successful candidate needed to operate across service delivery, workforce leadership and customer expectations.

A conventional résumé-led screening process risked placing too much weight on previous titles and too little on whether candidates could demonstrate the behaviours and judgement required in the actual operating environment.

Our approach

ParaCOACH approached the recruitment process by first clarifying the capability required for success in the position.

This informed candidate sourcing, screening and structured assessment.

Candidates were considered against the practical requirements of the role as well as relevant leadership, behavioural and operational indicators, creating greater consistency between initial screening and later-stage assessment.

What we delivered

End-to-end recruitment support incorporating role and market positioning, candidate sourcing, screening, shortlisting and structured assessment support.

Relevant employment, licence, reference and onboarding considerations were incorporated where required by the engagement.

The ParaCOACH difference

The assignment was approached as a capability decision rather than simply a vacancy transaction.

The objective was to understand what the organisation genuinely needed from the Service Manager and build the recruitment process around those requirements.
