Repositioning extensive experience for a senior public-sector opportunity

A senior emergency-services professional was preparing for a competitive management opportunity within a capability-based public-sector selection process.

The candidate brought extensive operational, education, governance and leadership experience. The challenge was not a lack of experience—it was determining which experience best demonstrated readiness for the role and presenting it at the appropriate level.

The challenge

The existing résumé contained substantial professional experience, but many of the strongest examples were dispersed across the career history rather than clearly connected to the requirements of the target role.

The selection process also included capability-based questions, creating a need for the résumé, cover letter and written responses to operate as one coherent application rather than separate documents repeating the same examples.

Our approach

ParaCOACH analysed the role, application requirements and relevant capability framework before examining the candidate's existing material.

The engagement focused on identifying the most relevant evidence, differentiating between experience and assessment-ready examples, identifying genuine evidence gaps and strengthening the candidate's senior-level positioning without overstating their experience.

Evidence was deliberately allocated across the application so the strongest examples were used where they had the greatest relevance.

What we delivered

A coordinated application package comprising a strategically repositioned résumé, targeted supporting material and capability-based responses grounded in the candidate's genuine experience.

The work also created a stronger evidence base that could subsequently support interview and selection preparation.

The ParaCOACH difference

This was not simply a résumé rewrite.

The engagement translated a broad professional history into a clearer selection narrative built around role relevance, evidence, seniority and capability.
